Violent Clashes in Kinshasa Over Proposed Constitutional Term Limit Revision

Protests organized by the C64 opposition coalition in Kinshasa were met with tear gas and police intervention as demonstrators rallied against a proposed constitutional amendment that could permit President Félix Tshisekedi to seek a third term. Clashes erupted outside the National Assembly between opposition activists and pro-government supporters. Opposition figure Martin Fayulu was among those reported injured. The political unrest occurs alongside a localized Ebola outbreak and ongoing conflict with M23 rebels in the east.
