IOM Reports Haiti Displacement Reaches 1.5 Million Amid Escalating Gang Violence

The UN International Organization for Migration (IOM) released a report on June 5 and updated on June 8, 2026, indicating that displacement in Haiti has hit a record high of nearly 1.5 million people. The surge is driven by expanding gang conflict into previously stable areas like the South-East Department. In the capital's Cité Soleil district alone, 18,000 people were recently displaced within days. The report warns that safe refuges are disappearing as violence becomes more widespread across the country.
