UNHCR reports massive displacement in South Sudan's Jonglei state
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) issued a warning on June 6 regarding a worsening protection crisis in eastern Jonglei state, South Sudan. Fighting between the national army and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) militia has displaced approximately 140,000 people in Akobo County alone. An additional 100,000 people have reportedly fled across the border into Ethiopia seeking safety. Humanitarian access remains severely constrained as the rainy season intensifies, isolating vulnerable populations.
