New wave of gang violence displaces thousands in Cité Soleil
The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and WFP reported that a fierce escalation in clashes between armed gangs in the impoverished Cité Soleil commune of Port-au-Prince forced 17,496 people to abandon their homes in late May 2026, further overcrowding makeshift camps in the capital.
