Iran Suspends Peace Talks and Threatens Hormuz Blockade
Iranian Chief Negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf announced a formal suspension of peace negotiations with the United States on June 1, 2026. Citing Israeli military actions in Lebanon and Gaza as violations of the existing ceasefire, Iran threatened to completely block the Strait of Hormuz and the Strait of Mandeb. The Axis of Resistance backed the move, stating that maritime routes would remain closed to most international traffic until all military operations against their allies cease.
