Explosion at Mining Explosives Depot in Myanmar Kills 46 Civilians
A massive accidental explosion at a building storing mining explosives killed at least 46 people, including six children, in the village of Kaungtup, Namhkam township, on May 31, 2026. The blast occurred in an area controlled by the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) near the Chinese border. Rescuers reported that approximately 70 others were injured and surrounding homes were leveled by the shockwave. The TNLA stated the detonation was an accident involving stored commercial materials.
