ADF rebel attack in Ituri leaves 40 dead and homes burned
In early to mid-May 2026, the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF)—a rebel group allied with the Islamic State—killed at least 40 people and burned several homes in the volatile Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The destruction of civilian infrastructure forced remaining survivors to flee their communities. Using IDMC rules for a localized village raid, this attack newly displaced an estimated 1,500 civilians.
