Armed Clashes in Salin Township Displace Thousands
Ongoing armed clashes between the Myanmar Armed Forces and non-state resistance groups in Salin Township, Magway Region, escalated in mid-May 2026. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that the military operations displaced approximately 5,000 people from 15 villages. The fighting reportedly resulted in the deaths of eight civilians and the destruction of roughly 300 houses.
