Nigerian Troops Repel ISWAP Ground Assault in Borno State
Nigerian troops engaged in a pre-dawn firefight to repel an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) assault near the Cameroon border in the Kirawa axis of Borno State. The engagement left 12 ISWAP fighters dead. The operation comes as U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drones and intelligence advisors have re-established a surveillance presence in the region to support Nigerian counterterrorism forces.
