Myanmar’s military recaptured the Thai border trading town of Mawtaung following a 15-day counteroffensive against Karen resistance forces. Aid volunteers confirmed that at least 4,000 residents of Mawtaung and nine surrounding villages fled their homes to escape the intense fighting and encirclement.
