Myanmar Junta Demands TNLA Surrender Four Towns in China-Brokered Talks

During the 11th round of China-brokered peace negotiations in Kunming on May 19, 2026, the Myanmar military junta formally demanded that the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) surrender four towns in northern Shan State. The meeting, attended by Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Ko Ko Oo and Chinese envoy Deng Xijun, highlights the junta's attempt to use diplomatic leverage to reverse significant territorial losses suffered throughout 2025. The TNLA has yet to officially respond to the demand.
