Myanmar Military Intensifies Chin State Airstrikes, Displacing 800
Myanmar's military junta launched a series of at least 11 airstrikes on Mindat and surrounding areas in Chin State on May 18, 2026, targeting resistance strongholds and trade routes. The strikes killed four people and destroyed 15 homes. Resistance groups, including the Chin People's Army, warned of a massive troop buildup at the Magwe-Chin border. Fear of an imminent ground assault led approximately 800 residents from Tonzang to flee across the border into Mizoram, India.
