WHO Declares International Emergency After Ebola Confirmed in M23-Controlled Goma
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern following the confirmation of an Ebola case in Goma, a strategic city in eastern DRC currently controlled by the Rwanda-backed M23 militia. The patient, the wife of a man who died from the virus in Bunia, traveled to the city while infected. Health officials expressed grave concern as the outbreak involves a strain with no existing vaccine and has already caused 88 deaths across the region.
