Fierce fighting between rival gangs in Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince, has resulted in the deaths of at least 78 people between May 15 and May 16, 2026. The violence has concentrated around the Toussaint Louverture International Airport, causing severe operational disruptions and forcing over 4,400 residents to flee their homes. The Viv Ansanm coalition continues to control nearly 90% of the city despite efforts by the UN-backed Gang Suppression Force to secure key humanitarian corridors.
