Israeli Navy Intercepts Global Sumud Humanitarian Flotilla in International Waters
Israeli naval forces intercepted 54 boats of the Global Sumud and Freedom Flotilla on May 14, 2026, approximately 500 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza. Over 180 activists from 70 countries were detained during the operation. The flotilla, which departed from Marmaris, Turkey, was attempting to break the long-standing blockade of the Gaza Strip. UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese criticized the seizure in international waters, while Israeli military radio reported the navy acted to prevent potential escalation.
