Gang Offensive in Northern Port-au-Prince Forces MSF Hospital Evacuation

A severe escalation in gang violence in Haiti’s capital on May 12, 2026, forced hundreds to flee northern neighborhoods, including Cité Soleil and Croix-des-Bouquets. Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) evacuated its Cité Soleil hospital after treating 40 gunshot victims in 12 hours. Witnesses reported at least seven civilians killed as armed groups burned homes and established control over 90% of the city. Displaced families were seen fleeing toward the Toussaint Louverture International Airport road.
