U.S. Treasury sanctions Iraqi Deputy Minister of Oil over Iranian smuggling
The U.S. Treasury Department designated Iraq's Deputy Minister of Oil, Ali Maarij Al-Bahadly, and several militia leaders for exploiting Iraq's oil sector to benefit the Iranian regime. The network falsified documents to smuggle Iranian oil to market while funding the Iran-backed Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada terrorist militia.
