Myanmar Military Recaptures Vital Mandalay-Myitkyina Trade Corridor
The Myanmar military claimed to have recaptured a strategic northern transport corridor linking Mandalay to the northern hub of Myitkyina near the Chinese border. The operation followed a 15-month battle and over 320 engagements against ethnic minority armies and pro-democracy guerrillas. The commander-in-chief's office reported seizing the bodies of 138 rebels during the final offensive. The military has since announced the reopening of the route for regional trade with China.
