Ongoing Search and Rescue for Missing U.S. Personnel During African Lion 2026
U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) reported on May 6, 2026, that search and rescue operations remain active for two U.S. service members missing since May 2. The personnel disappeared near the Cap Draa Training Area near Tan Tan, Morocco, while participating in the African Lion 2026 multinational military exercise. AFRICOM is coordinating with Moroccan authorities to locate the missing individuals as the large-scale exercise, involving over 1,500 personnel from 30 nations, continues under heightened safety protocols.
