UN Reports Civilian Fatalities from Police Drone Strikes in Haiti
An OHCHR report released on May 5 raised alarms over the use of lethal force by Haitian security forces and private military contractors. The report details that recent drone strikes and helicopter fire targeting gangs have inadvertently killed at least 60 civilians, including 13 children, and injured 49 others. As gangs now control approximately 90% of Port-au-Prince, the government has increasingly relied on high-tech aerial platforms, which human rights monitors claim often result in summary executions and disproportionate harm to non-combatants.
