Escalating Insecurity Displaces Thousands in North Kordofan
Intensifying clashes and general insecurity between rival factions in Sudan have forced approximately 2,600 civilians to flee the towns of Abu Haraz and Kazgil in North Kordofan state between May 2 and May 4, 2026. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the displaced individuals have sought refuge in safer areas within the Sheikan locality. This sudden movement reflects the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Kordofan region as fighting between the SAF and RSF spreads into previously stable residential areas.
