M23 Rebels Seize Key Road Juncture in North Kivu
M23 insurgents advanced further into the Masisi territory of North Kivu on May 2, 2026, seizing control of the strategic Mushaki-Karuba road junction. This capture effectively cuts off a primary supply route for government forces (FARDC) defending the regional capital of Goma. Civilians in the surrounding villages began fleeing toward Goma and Sake as the rebels established new checkpoints. MONUSCO peacekeepers have increased patrols but have not directly engaged the advancing rebel columns in the area.
