Israel Intercepts Global Sumud Aid Flotilla near Crete
Israeli naval forces intercepted the 'Global Sumud Flotilla' in international waters near the Greek island of Crete between April 30 and May 1, 2026. Approximately 175 pro-Palestinian activists from 22 boats were detained while attempting to break the maritime blockade of Gaza. Activists accused Israel of 'piracy' and 'kidnapping' for the operation, which occurred 600 miles from the Gazan coast. Israel stated that the detainees would be transferred to Greek authorities for processing.
