Thousands Flee Akobo Town Following SSPDF Airstrikes and Clashes
According to OCHA reports, armed clashes erupted between the South Sudan People's Defence Forces (SSPDF) and opposition groups in Akobo town, which were immediately followed by SSPDF airstrikes in the nearby villages of Nukta and Gakdong. The intense fighting prompted an estimated 15,000 civilians, many of whom had recently returned to the area, to flee once again toward Tiergol in Ethiopia and other neighboring regions [15, 28].
