CENTCOM Enforces Iranian Port Blockade on 28 Merchant Vessels

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on April 21 that its naval forces have directed 28 merchant vessels to turn around or return to port since the implementation of a blockade on Iranian maritime hubs last week. The blockade is intended to prevent ships from entering or exiting Iranian ports following the collapse of a regional ceasefire deal. Tehran has characterized the U.S. naval activity as a violation of international law and an act of war, further escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
