Chad Announces Deployment of 1,500 Troops to Haiti Security Mission

Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby announced on April 21 that the country will deploy 1,500 troops to Haiti to support the UN-backed Gang Suppression Force (GSF). The deployment will consist of two battalions tasked with helping the Haitian National Police secure Port-au-Prince against dominant criminal gangs. A preliminary contingent of 400 Chadian personnel has already arrived in the country. This commitment comes as the previous Kenyan-led mission transitions into a larger multinational force to address Haiti's severe security and food crisis.
