Myanmar Airstrike Near Thai Border Triggers Evacuations in Mae Hong Son
On April 20, 2026, Myanmar's air force conducted airstrikes using Yak-130 and MiG-29 fighter jets against Karen National Union (KNU) positions in Karen State. During the raid, one bomb landed on Thai territory in the Sop Moei district of Mae Hong Son province. In response, Thai security forces from the 36th Ranger Regiment evacuated approximately 200 local residents to Huai Kong Kat village for safety. The strikes also reportedly targeted a KNU-run hospital near the Salween River.
