Severe Flooding Across Afghanistan Affects Over 73,000 People

According to reports on April 18, 2026, from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), heavy rains and flash floods over the preceding 12 days have impacted more than 73,000 people across 31 of Afghanistan's 34 provinces. The floods have destroyed thousands of homes, damaged over 15,000 acres of agricultural land, and disrupted critical infrastructure. The UN reported at least 93 deaths, while the Taliban-run disaster management authority cited nearly 200 killed. Displaced families, particularly women and girls, face severe challenges in accessing healthcare.
