Military Offensive Displaces Over 10,000 During Thingyan Festival

A coordinated air and ground offensive by the Myanmar military has displaced over 10,000 civilians in Sagaing Region's Yinmabin Township. The assault began on April 12, during the traditional Thingyan New Year's holiday, with two army columns of around 100 troops each advancing into the area. The ground raids were supported by airstrikes from gyrocopters, which dropped bombs on villages. Residents from at least 10 villages have fled into nearby forests to escape the violence, with many now sheltering in makeshift conditions.
