U.S. Begins Mine Clearance Mission in Strait of Hormuz
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces began a mission to clear sea mines laid by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps in the Strait of Hormuz. The operation started with the destroyers USS Frank E. Peterson and USS Michael Murphy transiting the strait to establish a safe passage for commerce. Admiral Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, stated that additional forces, including underwater drones, would join the effort to ensure the critical waterway is fully clear.
