Escalating Clashes in Myanmar's Karen State Drive 6,000 Toward Border

Renewed ground offensives by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) against junta-held positions near the Myawaddy trade zone in late March 2026 have forced approximately 6,000 civilians to flee. OCHA reports indicate that airstrikes by the State Administration Council (SAC) on residential areas suspected of harboring resistance fighters have left villagers with no choice but to move toward the Thai border for protection. Humanitarian organizations are struggling to provide aid due to active fighting and mining of main roads.
