U.S. Navy Launches Mine-Clearing Mission in Strait of Hormuz
The U.S. Central Command initiated active operations on April 11 to clear sea mines from the Strait of Hormuz. Guided-missile destroyers USS Frank E. Peterson and USS Michael Murphy transited the waterway to secure a safe passage for commercial shipping following Iranian Revolutionary Guard mine-laying activities. The mission, involving underwater drones, aims to restore the free flow of oil which has been disrupted during the ongoing regional conflict involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran.
