Fano Clashes with ENDF Near Woldia Trigger Civilian Flight
Heavy fighting between the Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM) and the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) intensified near Woldia between March 28 and April 2, 2026. According to the Amhara Association of America and local reports, the clashes displaced 12,500 civilians from North Wollo. The conflict, which involves artillery shelling in residential areas, has disrupted local markets and schooling. Displaced populations are moving toward rural highlands, where access to humanitarian aid remains severely limited by ongoing insecurity.
