M23 Advance on Sake Causes Massive Outflow Toward Goma
Renewed clashes between M23 rebels and the Congolese army near the strategic town of Sake caused a massive wave of displacement. Human Rights Watch and local NGOs reported that 45,000 people fled their homes in Masisi territory within four days, moving toward Goma. The influx has overwhelmed existing IDP camps, which are already struggling with sanitation issues. Frontline shifts have placed these newly displaced populations at risk of being caught in crossfire, per Radio Okapi.
