Civilians Flee Lashio Following Collapse of Peace Talks and Airstrike Threats
Following the collapse of China-brokered peace talks between the junta and the MNDAA, residents in Lashio were warned of imminent 'destructive' airstrikes. Fear of highly destructive 500-lb bombs, which previously struck hotels and markets, led to the flight of 5,000 civilians toward Taunggyi and Nyaung Shwe. The Irrawaddy reported that the junta's air force is intentionally targeting urban areas to deter the return of displaced families to rebel-held territory.
