Drone and Heavy Weapon Attacks on Debre Tabor and Wereta
In late March 2026, the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) documented drone and heavy weapon attacks on civilian areas in Debre Tabor and Wereta. The strikes hit health facilities and schools, destroying parts of the towns. This specific offensive by federal forces against Amhara Fano militias resulted in the new displacement of 12,000 civilians, who fled to rural South Wollo to escape ongoing urban combat.
