DRC Army Announces Offensive to Disarm FDLR Militia
Lieutenant General Nduru Jacques Ychaligonza, deputy chief of staff of the Congolese armed forces (FARDC), announced on April 3, 2026, that the army would begin a major operation to disarm the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR). The push, centered in the Kivu regions and Kisangani, is a key requirement of the 2025 Washington peace agreement. The operation aims to neutralize the Hutu militia to facilitate the withdrawal of Rwandan troops from eastern DRC.
