M23 Offensive Near Sake Town

A renewed offensive by the M23 rebel group near the strategic town of Sake on March 21 caused approximately 25,000 people to flee toward Goma. According to reports from Radio Okapi and OCHA, the movement began after heavy artillery fire struck civilian-populated areas on the town’s outskirts. The sudden arrival of thousands in Goma has strained local resources, with many displaced families sleeping in schools or churches without access to clean water or food supplies.
