Massive Farmer Protests Block Brussels Over EU-Mercosur Trade Deal
Thousands of farmers from across Europe converged on the EU headquarters in Brussels, using tractors to block major roads and tunnels in the European Quarter. Protesters set fire to tires and hay, threw potatoes and eggs at police, and set off fireworks to voice opposition to the proposed Mercosur trade deal and reforms to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Clashes were reported near the European Parliament as police utilized water cannons and tear gas to disperse crowds.
