Religious leaders call for peace in Nuba Mountains

Christian and Muslim religious leaders from Sudan's Nuba Mountains issued a joint statement on September 23 calling for an end to hostilities and urging parties to engage in genuine dialogue. The leaders highlighted that the conflict, which spread through Heiban County in March 2026, has caused mass displacement, trauma, and the destruction of livelihoods, while welcoming a ceasefire previously declared by the SPLM/A-North.
