Home › YemenHouthis Capture Strategic Perim Island in Bab el-Mandeb StraitHouthi fighters seized control of Perim Island in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait following the withdrawal of Yemeni government forces. The strategic island divides the strait into two critical shipping lanes, completing the Houthi control over the chokepoint. Combined with ongoing disruptions in the Persian Gulf, the advance places significant portions of international seaborne maritime transit under acute pressure and threat of hostile interdiction.
