Joint Somalia-Turkey Operation Rescues Cargo Vessel From Pirates
Somali maritime police and Turkish naval forces conducted a joint operation on August 30 to free a cargo vessel hijacked by pirates in the Gulf of Aden. The vessel and its crew were rescued after security forces intercepted the ship and neutralized the attackers. The operation underscores increasing maritime cooperation between Mogadishu and Ankara following a bilateral defense agreement. This successful intervention comes amid a reported uptick in piracy attempts in the regional waters.
