Qatari Prime Minister Conducts High-Level Mediation in Tehran
Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran on August 27-28, 2026. The talks focused on a potential 'controlled reopening' of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has linked the reopening to a ceasefire in Gaza, Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, and sanctions relief. While a temporary shipping corridor with Oman is under discussion, Washington maintains it is not currently engaged in direct talks with Tehran.
