RSF Attack Near El Obeid Kills 18 Civilians and Triggers Mass Flight
Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a deadly assault on the town of Um Arada, 25 kilometers southwest of El Obeid, killing 18 civilians and wounding 17 others. The attack forced more than 300 families to flee on foot toward the state capital. International monitors warned on August 17 that a full-scale offensive on El Obeid is imminent, potentially trapping 563,000 civilians. The city faces critical shortages of fuel, water, and electricity as humanitarian conditions rapidly deteriorate.
