Somali Forces Repel Major Al-Shabaab Assault on Baidoa
The Somali National Army (SNA) engaged in fierce combat to repel a multi-pronged attack on Baidoa, the capital of South West State, involving Al-Shabaab militants and fighters loyal to former President Abdiaziz Laftagareen. Using explosive-laden vehicles, militants attempted to seize government positions at 5:00 AM. The Defense Ministry reported 30 militants were killed, though telecommunications blackouts hindered verification of claims that opposition forces reached the city center. This surge in violence follows federal efforts to assume full security control.
