Iran's Supreme Leader Appoints New Military Head Amid Regional Tensions
Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has appointed Revolutionary Guards General Ali Abdollahi to lead the country’s armed forces, alongside confirming a new commander for the IRGC. The leadership overhaul coincides with Iran’s declaration that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until US sanctions are lifted. This shift occurred as intelligence reports of potential Iranian threats prompted the secret transfer of President Trump from a NATO summit in Ankara to a secure military aircraft earlier today.
