Türkiye captures high-profile FETO member wanted for 2016 Erdogan assassination bid

Turkish police apprehended a dismissed army captain and former helicopter pilot in Afyonkarahisar on August 5, 2026. The suspect was a member of the FETO unit that attempted to assassinate President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Marmaris during the July 2016 coup attempt. Wanted under an Interpol Red Notice, the individual was captured in a joint operation by intelligence and counterterrorism units.
