Al-Shabaab Captures Strategic Town of Moqokori
Al-Shabaab militants seized the strategic town of Moqokori in central Somalia's Hiran region on August 4, 2026, following intense clashes with government troops. The group claimed to have killed at least 40 soldiers and seized multiple military compounds. While state media reported the attack was repelled with heavy militant losses, local sources confirmed Al-Shabaab had established control over the area previously liberated in 2022.
