Large-Scale Battle Erupts in Hiraan Between Somali Forces and Al-Shabaab
Heavy fighting broke out on the morning of August 2, 2026, in Somalia's Hiraan region between the Somali National Army, supported by Ma'awisley militias, and Al-Shabaab militants. The confrontation centered on the corridor between Maxaas and Teedaan. Reports indicate the use of vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs) by militants against frontline government positions. Somali federal forces have reportedly surrounded several Al-Shabaab elements, cutting off key supply lines as international partners provide aerial support.
