Venezuela Transition Talks Scheduled to Commence Between Interim Government and Opposition
Acting President Delcy Rodriguez confirmed in a July 30 interview that formal transition talks with the 2015-elected National Assembly, led by Dinorah Figuera, are set to begin on August 1. The U.S.-backed negotiations aim to establish a roadmap for presidential elections following the January capture of Nicolas Maduro. While Rodriguez maintains she is acting to ensure national stability, exiled opposition figures like Maria Corina Machado remain critical of the interim leadership's legitimacy and democratic commitments.
